Empire Fisheries is committed to going above and beyond to protect the ecosystems we work in. Whenever possible, we strive to do better than the minimum required by environmental regulations. Our oceans sustain us, and we must sustain them.
We are proud to participate in environmental research and the development of tools and strategies to leave the ocean environment better than we find it. Since the 1990s, when many fisheries were in collapse, our industry has made great gains to rebuild stocks and manage resources sustainably. Now, our fisheries are Marine Certified Sustainable.
We contribute to research projects with the Coonamessett Farm Foundation. Our research efforts have included gear redesign for bycatch reduction, Loggerhead sea turtle protection, population surveys, and more.
Our local seafood industries provide affordable protein sources at a lower carbon footprint. Eating local seafood is key to a sustainable future.
